Holiday Weekend Bird Hunting at PTA
Between Jan. 16 and Jan. 18, Army officials will open the Humu’ula Unit, training areas 1-4, and the Ahi Unit, training areas 9 and 12-16.
The areas will be open for shotgun hunting of birds only from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Hunters are required to check in and check out at one of the new Army check-in stations, located in the following areas:
Old Saddle Road Gate, across from the Mauna Kea State Park entrance.
Mile marker 49.5 gate on Daniel K. Inouye Highway, located about a half-mile from Mamalahoa Highway.
Gate 10, near mile marker 53 on Old Saddle Road, one mile from Mamalahoa Highway.
All hunters must check out by 6 p.m. each day.
The hunting areas are only accessible by foot and hunters should review their hunting pass for permitted parking areas.
Bird hunting at PTA follows State of Hawai’i regulations outlined in H.A.R. Title 13, Chapter 122 “Rules Regulating Game Bird Hunting, Field Trails, and Commercial Shooting Preserves.”
