Women Rescued from Rainbow Falls

The Hawai’i County Fire Department rescued two women from the Rainbow Falls area of Wailuku River Tuesday afternoon.

Fire crews arrived on scene just after 1 p.m., where bystanders noted that two women in their 20’s jumped off of Rainbow Falls.

Both women were reportedly helped to shore by two “good Samaritans” prior to HFD’s arrival.

Bystanders notified the officials that one of the women was injured.

HFD reports that the Fire Captain set up a landing zone and the Rescue Captain coordinated the extraction of the two women from the shoreline of the river.

Once at the landing zone, Emergency Medical Service personne,l led by a Fire Medical Specialist, treated the injured woman before taking her to Hilo Medical Center.

Fourteen HFD fire fighters assisted in the rescue.
