Together with the Hawai’i Department of Human Resources Development, the Hawai’i Department of Transportation will lead various “Women in Airport Fire Service” workshops throughout the state, including two on the Big Island.

During the month of January, HDOT and DHRD will host the free 90-minute workshops in Hilo and Kona. Both courses will be held on Jan. 9. In Hilo, the workshop is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Hawai’i Community College. Kona’s course is set for 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Kona International Airport’s Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting Station.

The workshops being held statewide are part of efforts to increase awareness of ARFF careers for women.

Those in attendance can expect to learn how to submit an online application, explore ARFF careers for women, and to see the firehouse culture from a woman’s perspective.

To register to attend a workshop, e-mail [email protected], include your first and last name, the location and time of the workshop, and “Women in Airport Fire Service” in the subject line.

All participants must register at least three days prior to the event date.
