Wind Advisory Posted for Parts of Big Island

A Winter Weather Advisory is posted for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa through 8 a.m. Saturday for the formation of ice on summit roadways.
A Small Craft Advisory is posted through Sunday at 6 a.m. for winds up to 30 knots and seas up to 12 feet.
A Wind Advisory is posted for Kohala due to very strong and gusty winds. East winds from 20 to 30 mph are forecast with gusts up to 45 mph.
A Gale Warning is posted for the Alenuihaha channel through 6 a.m. Saturday for winds up to 40 knots and seas up to 10 feet.
A High Surf Advisory is posted for east facing shores through 6 p.m. Sunday for 6 to 8 foot faces.

Looking Ahead
Strong gusty trades will continue through the holiday weekend. Showers are expected to continue to focus over windward and mauka areas. Some of the larger showers will reach leeward locations at times. The trades will begin to weaken early next week.
Today
Northeast winds are expected today from 20 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 noh. Mostly cloudy skies are forecast for windward and mauka areas with showers likely. Leeward side should be mostly clear with scattered afternoon showers as cloud cover builds. High temperatures from 79° to 84°.

Tonight
East winds are expected from 15 to 30 mph with higher gusts. Low temperatures from 67° to 72°. Mostly cloudy skies are expected with showers likely in windward spots and scattered showers for the leeward side in the evening and clearing overnight.
