Ku’ikahi Mediation Center will host its next “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace” Brown Bag Lunch Series on Dec. 17 with Julie Mitchell, who will speak on “Active Listening: The Perfect Holiday Gift.”

The free talk will be hosted by the mediation center at the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney in Hilo from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

“Truly listening, making the time and space to hear someone out, is one of the greatest gifts you can give to another person,” says Mitchell, Ku‘ikahi’s Executive Director.  “In this talk, learn some powerful and effective active listening techniques—including non-verbal communication, summarizing for understanding, and asking appropriate questions.  This holiday season, give the gift of listening to friends, family, and even strangers! “

Mitchell is also a professionally trained volunteer mediator and a member of Association for Conflict Resolution Hawai’i. She holds a certificate of professional development in nonprofit management and is a 2015 Weinberg Fellow.
