An armed break-in suspect has been charged with several offenses following an incident Sunday afternoon at a home in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision.

Ka’u District officers responded to a report of a man with a knife at the home, located on the 92-1600 block of Aloha Boulevard, at 4 p.m.

After arriving, officers learned that a man reportedly broke into the house and threatened a 73-year-old woman and a 73-year-old man with a knife and a rock.

The suspect removed keys, injured the male victim during a struggle for the keys, and attempted to steal their car. Following the struggle, the suspect fled from the area on foot as police were arriving.

Responding officers followed and arrested the man, who has been identified as Alan J. Dush. He has no permanent address.

Dush was taken to the Kona police cellblock as Area II Criminal Investigations Section detectives continue to investigate the incident.

On Tuesday at 10:45 p.m., Dush was charged with eight offenses, including burglary, robbery, terroristic threatening, assault, criminal property damage, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, attempted theft, and attempted unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.

Dush’s bail was set at $25,500, and he remains at the cellblock pending his initial court appearance, scheduled for Wednesday.
