Taylor Farms Recall Impacts Several Products Sold in Hawai’i
Taylor Farms Pacific, Inc., based out of Tracy, Calif., recently announced a recall of several products as a result of potential Escherichia coli contamination.
The recall followed testing of a celery and onion diced blend by the Montana Department of Health following a multi-state E. coli 0157:H7 outbreak linked to the product’s use in a Costco Rotisserie Chicken Salad late last month.
A number of products are included in the recall, spanning across numerous states, including Hawai’i.
In a statement, the United States Food and Drug Administration said that “Taylor Farms Pacific Inc. of Tracy, CA, is recalling the products listed below because they may include celery which could potentially contain E. coli 0157:H7. The products listed below are being recalled out of an abundance of caution.”
E. coli can cause a diarrheal illness often with bloody stools. The FDA says that many healthy adults can recover from the illness within a week, however, some individuals can develop a form of kidney failure called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome. HUS can impact young children and the elderly.
