After a three-and-a-half week closure, Kawananakoa Gymnasium’s children’s playground in Hilo reopened to the public Thursday.

The playground facility was closed on Oct. 19 as County Department of Parks and Recreation crews added a new synthetic turf safety surface to the site, providing fall protection.

Kawanakoa Gymnasium is located at 156 Baker Avenue in the Keaukaha area of Hilo and is part of Hualani Park.

The gymnasium follows a Monday through Saturday schedule with an operating schedule and list of events available online.
