Hilo Elks Lodge has announced the 2015-2016 Americanism Essay Contest, focused on the theme, “What I Can Do to Promote Americanism and Love of Country.”

Students in fifth through eighth grade are invited to express their views on their pride in America through the contest.

The essay should be no longer than 300 words, typed or legibly printed in ink, and must be submitted as written or typed by the student entering.

Judges will select winners based on originality, development of theme, mechanics, and neatness.

Two divisions will be judged separately: Division I with students in the fifth and sixth grades and Division II with students in seventh and eighth grade.

Submissions should include student name, grade, school attending, contact phone number, and address. Essays should be submitted by Dec. 18 to Hilo Elks Lodge 759, located at 150 Kinoole Street, Hilo, Hawai’i 96720.

Essays will be judged locally before making their way through District and State Levels. National winners will be announced in July 2016.
