Imade Charged with Manslaughter in Halloween Assault
Thirty-one-year-old Kallen Imade was charged late Wednesday in the death of 49-year-old Alfred Vea, who died following an assault on Halloween.
The Hawai’i Police Department says that Imade, from Mountain View, is facing a manslaughter charge and is being held on $250,000 bail.
South Hilo patrol officers responded to a report of an unconscious man in a parking lot on the 100 block of Hema Street in Hilo.
According to witnesses at the scene, Vea was involved in an affray with another man who had left the area.
Police issued a public alert noting that they were looking for Imade on Monday. Imade turned himself in to police Tuesday morning and was initially arrested on suspicion of assault.
Vea was initially taken to Hilo Medical Center with a head injury but was later transferred in critical condition to The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu.
Authorities say Vea was pronounced dead at 10:34 a.m. Wednesday.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office to determine the exact cause of death.
