Man Arrested in Assault, Terroristic Threatening Incident

A 48-year-old man, identified as Thomas Madrigal, was arrested Tuesday morning following an incident near the Pohaku Street and Kukila Street intersection in Hilo.

Madrigal reportedly has no permanent address, but is known to frequent the Hilo area.

A Hawai’i Police Department spokesperson told Big Island Now that the incident was called in at 8:45 a.m. and is being investigated as an assault/terroristic threatening case.

Madrigal, who was taken into custody at about 8:52 a.m., has not been charged.

A 62-year-old victim of the assault, who was not identified, was tended to by ambulance medics. The condition of the victim was not immediately available.
