A 59-year-old man is wanted by the Hawai’i Police Department after reportedly threatening a family member with a firearm.

HPD received a 5:38 p.m. call Monday that led them to the 18-1700 block of Ihope Road in Mountain View. There, officers learned that Mark Scott Silva had gone to the house of his estranged wife and threatened a 20-year-old woman with a handgun.

Silva then fled via foot into a heavily forested area.

Authorities describe Silva as Caucasian, 5-foot-3 to 5-foot-5, and 150 pounds. He has hazel eyes and short gray hair, along with tattoos on both arms. Silva may have a goatee and was last seen wearing a black T-shirt.

Silva has no permanent address but frequents the Puna area.

Anyone who sees Silva is advised not to approach him, as he is considered armed and dangerous.  HPD notes that anyone who has information on his whereabouts should call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Those who prefer to remain anonymous should call the Big Island Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300.
