Chin Chuck Road: Utility Work to Cause Partial Closure

A partial lane closure along Chin Chuck Road in Hilo will begin on Friday, Oct. 23 as Hawai’i Electric Light conducts utility construction in the area.

Work is expected to take place along a three-mile stretch of the roadway from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. daily, including weekends.

During the utility work, one lane of the road will be closed as crews work to improve system reliability, including the removal and replacement of utility poles. Distribution lines and equipment will also be upgraded during the project.

Traffic will be directed by security personnel and motorists are advised to drive with care though the area. Delays lasting up to 30 minutes are anticipated.

Work is estimated to be complete by mid-November.

Power interruptions will be minimized, however, temporary interruptions may be necessary at times. Should power be interrupted, customers in the area will receive prior notification
