UPDATE: Kaumana Drive Reopens Following Downed Pole

Kaumana Drive is now open to all traffic according to the Hawai’i Police Department.

As of 11:45, the Hawai’i Police Department reports that one lane along Kaumana Drive has been reopened.

The Hawai’i Police Department reports that Kaumana Drive near the seven mile marker, just below Nolemana Street, is expected to remain closed until approximately 3 p.m.

Just before 8 a.m., HPD reported that a downed utility pole closed the area in both directions and said that the road would be closed for an estimated three hours.

Authorities gave no reason for what the road is expected to remain closed for a longer period of time. They remind motorists that there are no other alternate routes from Saddle Road.

A downed utility pole along Kaumana Drive has caused a road closure near the seven mile marker, just below Nolemana Street in Hilo.

Utility crews are currently working to restore access to the roadway. The Hawai’i Police Department estimates that the roadway will be closed for about three hours.

Motorists are urged to use alternate routes if possible.
