Bad weather has forced Waiakea and Hilo to wait one more day before playing their Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I football semifinal game.

The BIIF announced late Friday afternoon that due to inclement weather, Friday’s semifinal contest between the crosstown rivals was postponed. Waiakea athletic director Thomas Correa told Big Island Now that “the thunder and lightning was non-stop” and it affected the ability for both teams to warm up on the field prior to kickoff. He said it was best to make the decision to not play on Friday before opening the gates and selling the tickets.

Both teams will try to make up the game Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The later start time is needed to accommodate the officiating crew who is working the Division II league semifinal between Hawai’i Preparatory Academy and Kamehameha-Hawai’i. That game will get underway at 3 p.m.
