Construction work will close an area on Leilani Street between Manono Street and Mililani Street in Hilo beginning Monday, Oct. 19. The closure is expected to last through Friday, Oct. 23 between the 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. daily.
Department of Public Works officials say the area will only be accessible to local motorists and pedestrians.
During the closure, concrete will be poured for the retaining wall footing, part of the roadway and sidewalk construction.
Off-duty officers will be located at the Manono Street and Mililani Street intersections with Leilani Street to redirect traffic.

Motorists who generally use the area are advised to take alternate routes or plan for delays.
