Man Involved in Violent Altercation Charged

A man involved in a stabbing in the Pohoiki area on Wednesday has been charged.

The Hawai’i Police Department has charged 61-year-old Boris Ivanovich Vereshak, who police previously identified as Boris Yarmolyk, with first-degree assault, third degree assault, and two counts of second-degree assault.

Vereshak’s bail was set at $10,000 as he awaited his initial court appearance, scheduled for Monday.

On Wednesday evening, Puna patrol officers responded to a call, where they learned that an argument had turned violent. During the altercation, a 24-year-old Pahoa man was stabbed.

HPD says that the victim was released from Hilo Medical Center on Friday after he received treatment for multiple stab wounds.
