Pahoa Man Arrested in Violent Altercation

The Hawai’i Police Department reports that a dispute in the Pohoiki area Wednesday night turned violent, leaving one man in the hospital and another in police custody.

Puna Patrol officers responded to an 8:15 p.m. call, where they learned that two men involved in an argument outside a home on the 13-0800 block of Pohoiki Road got into a physical altercation.

During the altercation, a 24-year-old Pahoa man was stabbed multiple times.

A resident in the area intervened, causing minor injuries to the suspect’s head, according to police.

The 24-year-old victim, who has not been identified, was taken to Hilo Medical Center in serious, but stable, condition.

HPD arrested 61-year-old Pahoa man Boris Yarmolyk at the scene on suspicion of first-degree assault.

Yarmolyk was treated by Hawai’i County Fire Department personnel before officers took him to the Hilo police cellblock.
