East Hawai’i Beaches Reopen After Weekend Surf

After two days of closures due to high surf, Hawai’i County Civil Defense reports that beach parks previously closed, including the Bayfront Canoe area and Kealoha Beach Park, have reopened.

Civil Defense says that Onekahakaha Beach Park remains closed as a result of debris cleanup. There is no scheduled reopening time for the park.

Bayfront Highway has also reopened.

A high surf advisory for portions of the Big Island’s north and east shores expired Sunday evening.
