Downtown Hilo Robbery Suspect Sought

A Downtown Hilo robbery is being investigated by the Hawai’i Police Department.

The incident reportedly took place Tuesday morning when a 47-year-old woman was sleeping in the doorway of a business.

South Hilo Patrol officers responded to an area on the 200 block of Kamehameha Avenue just after 6 a.m. There, the woman reported that the suspect had tugged on her purse, kicked her, and fled on foot with her purse.

According to HPD, the suspect was described as a “local male” in his late 20s or possibly early 30’s and was about 200 pounds. The man was wearing dark shorts and a black jacket.

The suspect was seen last near the intersection of Kamehameha Avenue and Haili Street with the victim’s black purse.

Anyone who has information about the identity of the suspect or the case should call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Individuals who prefer to remain anonymous should call the Big Island Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300.
