Hilo Bayfront Beach will close to all motorized vehicles beginning Friday morning, Sept. 25 in a move to protect beach goers’ safety and marine life.

The Hawai’i County Department of Parks and Recreation made the announcement on Tuesday morning, noting that the closure will create safer access to patrons of the beach and protect marine life from hazardous fluid that could leak from vehicles.

Boulders have been placed adjacent to the beach area to prevent vehicle access.

County officials also note that dogs and overnight camping are not permitted at Bayfront Beach.
