Man Arrested, Charged in Mother’s Death

Sean Alan Rutledge, 40, has been arrested and charged in the murder of his 63-year-old mother, Nadean Rutledge of Pahoa, on the strength of a grand jury indictment.

Nadean Rutledge was found with suspicious injuries outside her Kapoho Kai Drive home on Aug. 25. During the morning hours of Aug. 26 the Hawai’i Police Department issued an alert in search of Sean Alan Rutledge on a warrant to be extradited to California. Police located the man later that day.

Sean Alan Rutledge was in custody at Hawai’i Community Correctional Center on an unrelated matter when he was arrested in the murder case at 3:05 p.m. Friday. He was charged with second-degree murder.

According to HPD, Sean Alan Rutledge remains at the jail without bail as he awaits his initial court appearance, scheduled for Monday.
