Couple’s Dispute Results in Overnight Standoff

Hawai’i County police report a domestic violence incident resulted in an overnight standoff Friday.

Puna Patrol Officers responded to a report of an argument between a husband, 41-year-old Ben L. Domingo, and his wife that escalated into a critical incident due to Domingo possessing a firearm.

The Special Response Team responded while members of the Crisis Negotiation Team communicated with the residents throughout the night, and on Saturday morning deescalated the situation.

Domingo was arrested for several criminal offenses.

No major road closures occurred. Nearby residences were evacuated during this incident.

Domingo was arrested at the residence by Puna Patrol officers and later charged him with four felony counts of terroristic threatening I, a misdemeanor count of a violation of a protection order, two felony counts of ownership prohibited, and a felony count of kidnapping.

His total bail was set at $117,000. He was unable to post bail and his initial court appearance will be Tuesday afternoon.
