The Hawai’i Police Department reports that Highway 11 between mile markers 58 and 59 is now opened to all traffic.

As of 2:45 p.m., the roadway between the 58 and 59 mile markers on Highway 11 has once again been closed.

The Hawai’i Police Department reports that flooding caused the road to close again until further notice.

The Hawai’i Police Department reports that as of 2:20 p.m., Highway 11 between the 58 and 59 mile markers is now open to one lane.

Police closed the road Monday morning following a flooding of the roadway that made it impassable.

Flooding as a result of heavy widespread rain on the Big Island has caused Highway 11 between mile markers 58 and 59 to close, near Whitington Beach Park in Ka’u.

The Hawai’i Police Department reports that the roadway in the area is flooded and impassable.

Hawai’i County Civil Defense advises motorits to avoid the area and use alternate routes if possible.

There is currently no estimated reopening time as heavy rain continues in the area.
