Runway maintenance at Hilo International Airport will cause the closure of runway 8-26 nightly, beginning Sunday, on the following days:
Sunday, Aug. 23 through Friday, Aug. 28, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
Sunday, Aug. 30 through Friday, Sept. 3 from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
During the work, which includes runway painting, flight patterns will be modified and Runway 3-21 will be in use. An increase in traffic over Hilo and Keaukaha will result from the closure.
Both ends of the runway will be worked on by the contractor during daytime hours to reduce the amount of night work. Flight patterns during the day will not be affected.
