Attempted Murder Suspect Held on $2M Bail

A 37-year-old man involved in a Thursday afternoon incident that led to an officer-related shooting has been charged.

The Hawai’i Police Department says that Jomal Ford was charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of resiting an order to stop, after he allegedly tried to run two Sheriffs and a Police Officer over.

HPD says the fourth attempted murder charge is for attempting to kill more than one person.

According to police,. the incident took place at a residence on Mauna Lanai Tract Road in Mountain View as the authorities were attempting to serve Ford a bench warrant.

Ford, along with one injured officer, was taken to Hilo Medical Center. Police say Ford suffered a gunshot wound but was released from the hospital Thursday night. He is currently being held at the Hilo Police Cellblock until his arraignment date, with bail set at $2,001,000.

The officer who was struck by Ford’s vehicle was also released Thursday night.
