Furlogh Inmate Captured in Puna

The second of two furlough inmates who failed to report for a scheduled check-in at a Kona extended furlough house on July 30 has been arrested.

Officials from the Department of Public Safety say Donald Soares was arrested at about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday morning in the Puna District.

Soares is classified as community custody, and is serving time for burglary and theft. Escape 2 is expected to be added to his charged.

The next parole hearing for Soares was scheduled for November.

Furlough inmates live and work outside of the facility but are required to check-in at various times throughout the month.

Dyson Kepano, the other inmate who skipped his scheduled check-in on July 30 was arrested in Kona a day later, on July 31.
