Dignitaries gathered on Friday in celebration of the public blessing and groundbreaking ceremony for upcoming improvements to the Hilo Municipal Golf Course.

Four new putting greens, a clubhouse, bathrooms, bridges for the cart course, rain shelters, and accessible walkways at the driving range are among the items to be improved.

Jacobsen Construction Co. Inc. will build a new cart-storage building, replace course waterlines and the Kawailani Street fence, and install new fencing fronting Haihai Street.

Between February and March 2016, the 18-hole course will switch to a temporary 9-hole course as a result of construction work.

Estimated completion for the entire project is November 2016.

Mayor Billy Kenoi, County Councilman Dennis “Fresh” Onishi, State Senator Gilbert Kahele and State Representative Clift Tsuji were among the dignitaries in attendance.
