The Kilauea Drama Entertainment Network has added an extra showing of “The King and I” on Saturday, July 25 at 2:30 p.m.

KDEN says the addition of the showing is “due to overwhelming response” to the network’s current show.

Norman Arancon stars as The King, while Jeanette Gilbert is featured on stage as Anna in the show that opened on July 10.

A cast of 31, under the direction of Suzi Bond, and a 21-piece orchestra, under the direction of Pedro Ka’awaloa, rounds out the full group of talent in this year’s production.

“The King and I” is Rodgers and Hammerstein’s fifth musical. The story follows Margaret Landon’s 1944 novel “Anna and the King of Siam,” which is a derivative of the memoirs of Anna Leonowens, the governess to the children of King Mongkut of Siam in the early 1860’s.

Showings are Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 p.m. for the closing weekend.

The show takes place at Kilauea Military Camp’s Kilauea Theater.
