The body of missing swimmer Richard Demby, 26, was located off waters of OTEC Beach Monday afternoon.

According to the Hawai’i Police Department, Demby’s lifeless body was located 25 yards offshore by Hawai’i County Fire Department personnel, submerged in the ocean. He was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was officially pronounced dead.

Demby was reported missing just before 12 p.m. Monday after an acquaintance said the pair had been swimming together at OTEC Beach. The acquaintance told police that he had returned to the shore and was unable to find Demby.

Officials say an autopsy conducted Tuesday determined than Demby died from saltwater drowning.
