The County of Hawai’i Department of Environmental Management has announced its next set of residential household hazardous waste collection events.

The free collections will take place Saturday June 6 at the Hilo Recycling and Transfer Station and on Saturday, June 13 at the Kailua-Kona Recycling and Transfer Station.

County officials say items collected at the events are limited to household generated and self-hauled waste.

Business, government agency, non-profit agency, and farm waste are not allowed. In addition, electronic waste will not be accepted.

The regular events are held to give residents the opportunity to dispose of hazardous waste properly in order to protect public health, the environment, and the drinking water supply.

Items collected include automotive fluids, used batteries, fluorescent lights, and pesticides. Latex paint will also be collected for reuse.
