Airfield maintenance and lighting work on Runway 8-26 at the Hilo International Airport will begin Wednesday, May 20 and last through Friday, May 22 from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night.

State of Hawai’i Department of Transportation officials say Hilo and Keaukaha residents may experience an increase in aircraft traffic over the area as flights use Runway 3-21.

Runway 8-26 will also be closed on June 14 through July 17 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night as DOT crews work to repave the middle section on the runway to provide a smooth surface for airplane arrivals and departures.
