Hilo Man Charged for Gym Burglary

A 20-year-old Hilo man has been arrested and charged in connection with a burglary that occurred last year at a gym on Shipman Street in Hilo.

A 42-inch flat-screen television was taken from the gym during the incident on October 18, 2014.

On Thursday, May 14, Kaipo Anakalea Kahakai was arrested for contempt of court and an unrelated burglary that occurred May 11 on Ponahawai Street in Hilo.

After being taken to the Hilo police cellblock, detectives linked Kahakai to last year’s gym burglary.

He was charged with contempt of court, two counts of burglary, three counts of theft and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle. His bail was set at $7,050.

Kahakai remained at the cellblock awaiting his initial court appearance scheduled for Friday, May 15.
