Chu Takayama Confirmed as Director of DLIR

Linda Chu Takayama was confirmed by members of the State Senate of Tuesday as the Director of the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.

“I am confident that Ms. Chu Takayama’s values are consistent with the goals of the labor department and its attached agencies and I am confident she will provide strong leadership and appropriate support to successfully meet their objectives,” said Senator Gil Keith-Agaran, Senate Judiciary and Labor Committee Chair.

Prior to attaining the Director position, Chu Takayama served as the executive director of the Honolulu Mayor’s Office of Economic Development. In addition, she previously held the role of State Insurance Commissioner and is a former deputy director of the State Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs.

Chu Takayama also has a private law practice that specializes in regulatory and governmental affairs, health, insurance, and corporate business law.

“I can’t wait to get started. I think there’s a lot to be done in terms of being able to serve both the workers and the employees in our community and make this a better place to live,” said Chu Takayama.
