Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced Democratic Candidacy for President of the United States in 2016 on Sunday. In response to the announcement, United States Senator Brian Schatz praised her as “a real friend of Hawai’i.”

Senator Schatz commented on Clinton’s knowledge of Hawai’i and the issues faced by the state. In addition, he acknowledged her appreciation and value of Hawai’i being an Asia-Pacific bridge.

“With the future of America’s families at stake, we welcome Hillary Clinton’s announcement today that she is running for President of the United States.   We have fought hard over the last six years to rebuild an economy that works for everyone and that creates options and real hope for working people.  The road has been tough and this country needs a leader whose heart is strong and in the right place and who has continually proven herself as a true fighter for everyday people,” Senator Schatz said.
