A Hilo man has been arrested and charged with eight offenses after attempting to return items he purchased using a stolen credit card.

On April 1, a 26-year-old woman’s purse was stolen from a vehicle parked in downtown Hilo.  The woman’s credit card was used twice the following day in Hilo for transactions over $1,000.

On Monday, April 6, 25-year-old Chad Wright of Hilo tried to return $900 worth of the items purchased on April 2.  A police investigation revealed that he was the person who bought the items using the stolen credit card.

After being arrested and taken to the Hilo cellblock, detectives charged Wright with two counts each of fraud, ID theft, forgery and second-degree theft.  His bail was set at $19,000.
