Friends and family members are seeking support for Ryler Yoshiaki Nishimoto, a Waiakea High School senior who unexpectedly collapsed a few days ago while playing basketball.

The 17-year-old, who suffered a heart attack, was resuscitated by paramedics and brought to the Kapiolani Children’s and Women’s hospital where he is now in a coma, according to friends who set up a GoFundMe fundraising page for Ryler.

The fundraising page has raised $6,351 in donations from 93 people in two days as of this writing.  The fundraiser’s goal of $20,000 is intended to provide for Nishimoto’s medical costs.

According to the site, Ryler is a “very sweet young man and is very helpful to his mother.”
