Hilo Man Charged with Assault

The Hawai’i Police Department has charged 42-year-old Paul Sasaki with three offenses in connection to a reported assault that occurred Monday night.

According to police, at about 8 p.m. Monday, a man reported that he had been held at knife point and threatened while at an Ohea Street home where an acquaintance lived. The man reported that he was able to break free and leave the premises. He was then able to call police.

Forty-two-year-old Sasaki was arrested at 8:40 p.m. and taken to the Hilo police cellblock while the incident continued to be investigated by detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section.

Sasaki was charged with assault on Tuesday afternoon. After detectives and prosecutors conferred, he was charged with assault, unlawful imprisonment, and terroristic threatening.

Bail was set at $12,000 for Sasaki and he remained at the cellblock awaiting his initial court appearance, scheduled for Wednesday.
