HPD Weekly DUI Statistical Breakdown

Twenty-three motorists were arrested on Big Island roadways between Jan. 12 and Jan. 18, according to the Hawai’i Police Department’s weekly statistical update.

The DUI arrest statistic is down by 30.7 percent so far in 2015. There have been 52 DUI arrests this year, compared to 75 during the same period in 2014.

Major accidents are also down from 2014. Thirty-five major accidents have been reported on Big Island roadways so far this year, compared to 75 at the same time last year, a decrease of 53 percent.

One traffic fatality has occurred, compared to three at the same time in 2014, a decrease of  66.6 percent.

Police will continue patrols and DUI roadblocks throughout the island.
