HPD Weekly DUI Statistical Breakdown

Eighteen motorists were arrested on Big Island roadways between Jan. 5 and Jan. 11, according to the Hawai’i Police Department’s weekly driving under the influence statistical update.

Of the 18 arrested, two drivers were involved in traffic crashes and one driver was under the age of 21.

Almost two weeks into 2015, a total of 29 motorists have been arrested for DUI. This compares to 59 DUI arrests during the same time in 2014, beginning the year with an overall decrease of 43.1 percent.

Major accidents have also began the year with an overall decrease. There have been 26 major accidents so far this year, compared to 51 at this time last year, showing an overall decrease by 50 percent.

No traffic fatalities have occurred in 2015, compared to two that occurred at this time last year, an overall decrease of 100 percent.

HPD will continue with DUI roadblocks and patrols throughout the island.
