West Hawai’i State Parks to Close Early Wednesday
West Hawai’i state parks will close early on New Year’s Eve.
According to the Department of Land and Natural Resources, the parks, including Hapuna, Kiholo and Kekaha Kai, both the Mahaiula and Kua Bay sections, will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31.
“We are closing the parks early to discourage use of fireworks, which are prohibited in state parks, and to protect the public and natural resources of the area,” DLNR Chairperson William J. Aila, Jr. said Tuesday.
On Jan. 1, the parks will resume their normal operating hours. Kekaha Kai, both the Mahaiula and Kua Bay sections will open at 8 a.m. and Hapuna and Wailea will open at 7 a.m.
