HPD Weekly DUI Statistical Breakdown

The Hawai’i Police Department arrested 27 motorists between Nov. 3 and Nov. 9 for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Another two motorists were under the age of 21.

A weekly statistical breakdown by HPD showed an 11.3 percent decrease in DUI arrests this year with 1,002, down from 1,130 arrests during the same time in 2013.

Major accidents however are up by 14.7 percent. At this time in 2013, the number of major accidents that had occurred were 1,167, compared to this year’s 1,339.

Traffic fatalities are down by 52.2 percent, with 11 happening on Big Island roads so far this year. At this time in 2013, 23 fatalities had occurred.

Six of the 11 fatalities were related to drugs, alcohol or a combination of both.

Police officers will continue patrols and DUI roadblocks island wide.
