HPD Weekly DUI Statistical Breakdown: 18 Arrested

According to a Hawai’i Police Department weekly statistical breakdown, 18 motorists were arrested on Big Island roadways for driving under the influence between Oct. 6 and Oct. 12.

Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash and one was under the age of 21.

A total of 909 DUI arrests have occurred compared to 1,020 at the same time last year, a 10.9 percent decrease.

Major accidents have increased in 2014 by 12 percent. To date, there have been 1,213, compared to last year’s 1,085.

Nine traffic related fatalities have happened on the Big Island this year, six of which were related to drugs or a combination of drugs and alcohol. This is a decrease of 60.9 percent compared to 23 deaths last year.

The HPD will continue DUI roadblocks and patrols throughout the Big Island.
