The impending arrival of tropical depression Wali and its heavy rains has prompted the state to close parks or trails on three islands this weekend.
On the Big Island, the Department of Land and Natural Resources will close the Muliwai Trail to the Waimanu Valley campground.
The action is being taken because the 9-mile trail crosses numerous gulches, some of which contain streams subject to flash flooding.
Campers holding permits for the Waimanu campground are being notified of the closure.
Depending on trail conditions, Muliwai should reopen on Tuesday, July 22.
