It began with a report Saturday of a man allegedly brandishing a machete in the subdivision near Mountain View.

Officers responding to an 11:07 a.m. call found a 30-year-old man on 6th Street with apparent gunshot wounds.

Police said the victim, who had been driving a tow truck, reported that he was injured after stopping to inform police. He was taken to Hilo Medical Center in serious condition.

He has since been released from the hospital but was subsequently arrested for unrelated warrants and remained this morning in the Hilo cellblock.
