It began with a report Saturday of a man allegedly brandishing a machete in the subdivision near Mountain View.

Officers responding to an 11:07 a.m. call found a 30-year-old man on 6th Street with apparent gunshot wounds.

Police said the victim, who had been driving a tow truck, reported that he was injured after stopping to inform police. He was taken to Hilo Medical Center in serious condition.

Police are looking for a local male known as “Dennis,” who is described as between 40 and 50 years old, with short salt-and-pepper hair and a mustache. He was last seen wearing jeans shorts.
