Firefighters Extinguish Suspicious Fire in Waiakea Uka

Fire Department inspectors are investigating the cause of a fire that caused a small amount of damage to a home in Waiakea Uka Monday night.

Firefighters responding to 500 Hoaka Rd. at 6:07 p.m. found light smoke being emitted from both floors of the unoccupied home.

The 2,200-square-foot home built in the 1950s was surrounded by a fence with a locked gate.

According to the fire department, a passerby saw the smoke and alerted a neighbor who called 911.

Firefighters found that the back downstairs door had been forced open and a “suspicious” small fire on the bottom floor outside the bathroom.

The fire caused about $1,000 in damage to the home, which has an estimated value of $140,000.
