UPDATE: Old Highway Through Ahualoa Reopened

The Old Mamalahoa Highway has been reopened in Ahualoa, police said this afternoon.

The roadway had been closed to clear a large eucalyptus tree that had fallen, and to repair the damage it caused.

The road had been expected to be closed until Saturday.

Big Island police said a road closure in Hamakua resulting from a fallen eucalyptus tree will continue through this evening.

Motorists are advised to avoid that portion of the Old Mamalahoa Highway in Ahualoa.

Police said the large tree that fell Tuesday night caused damage to a water line and telephone lines.
