Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man wanted in connection to an attempted robbery in Hilo.

Police said a 49-year-old Hilo man reported that he was walking in the parking lot of the Waiakea Villas at about 8 p.m. on Oct. 31 when he encountered a man brandishing a weapon and demanding money.

The Hilo man refused his demand and the suspect fled the area. The victim was not injured.

The suspect was described as a local male in his late 20s, about 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds, with a light mustache. He was wearing a black T-shirt, dark shorts and a cap with “BJ Penn” embroidered on it.

Police have released a composite drawing of the suspect. Anyone with information on his identity is asked to contact Det. Dean Uyetake at 961-2379 or [email protected] or the police department’s non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Anonymous tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona.
