The University of Hawai`i at Hilo is offering several online courses in “Tsunami Preparedness.”

Taught by oceanography professor and tsunami specialist Walter Dudley, the self-paced courses utilize online videos and quizzes to help participants prepare for tsunami hazards. That includes learning about their nature and impact, characteristics and the Tsunami Warning System.

The courses also allow participants to choose specialized training designed for businesses, educators, ocean recreation businesses and community emergency response teams, or CERTS.

Each course contains four modules followed by short quizzes. A certificate is awarded upon completion.

The courses are offered by UH-Hilo’s College of Continuing Education and Community Service at an introductory rate of $50 each through February.

For more information or to register, call (808) 974-7664 or visit http://hilo.hawaii.edu/academics/ccecs/registration.
