An opening ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, for the new children’s playground at the AJ Watt Gym in Mountain View.

Festivities will begin at the nearby Na Wai Ola Public Charter School campus.

The new 2,300-square-foot playground consists of two modular-designed play areas designed for children from ages 5 to 12.

It also features a synthetic turf and impact-absorbing layer safety surface underneath the playground equipment.

Friends of Mountain View Gym and Park will hold drawings for donated prizes.

The gym near the playground was the subject of renovation itself after being closed from 2009 to 2011 for removal of asbestos and for ADA-compliant work.

That effort included contributions from volunteers organized by Daniel Caluya, principal of Na Wai Ola, also known as Waters of Life.
